Yama Yoga, located in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward

Ali Modell

Whatever techniques and approaches allow one to feel assembled and balanced in body and mind, then that is the path.

With two psychotherapist parents, I was exposed to a wide array of body-mind paradigms and takes on life at a young age.  Through these years, I also competed as a gymnast and dancer, earning a state title in 1996.  After departing from the stressful world of competitive gymnastics, Yoga became a natural fit for me, as it allowed me to join movement and meaning.

I advocate for an interdisciplinary approach to practice that combines precision, rhythm and self-expression.  My language and sequencing is clear, cohesive and creative, allowing the students to both develop and unveil sincere meaning about their personal journey and the Yoga tradition.

My Yoga education is rooted in both Ashtanga-Vinyasa and alignment based methodology.  I primarily focus my studies with Tias and Surya Little and assisted Tias in 2010.  In 2009-2010, I taught for Pure Yoga in Taipei, Taiwan and had the opportunity to train under Patrick Creelman in the Anusara Yoga method.  Most recently I completed Yin Yoga training with Paul and Suzee Grilley.  I am also a Vipassana meditator and a current masters degree student studying Oriental medicine and Asian body work at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago, IL.

In addition to Yoga, I enjoy long walks, cooking with friends and traveling in Asia.

I advocate for a comprehensive practice that is a simultaneous merging of technique, rhythm and self-expression and that allows students to both develop and unveil sincere meaning about their personal journey and the yoga tradition.
