If you asked my Mom she would’ve said I began Yoga when I was a young girl because Lilias Folan was on PBS right before Mister Roger’s Neighborhood. My mom fostered a creative spark in me, took me to the public library, and checked out a children’s book on Yoga. It was 1976, I would love to tell you I stuck with it but…..
As with so many people a negative moment led me back to Yoga! After dancing for most of my formative years I suffered from bum knees, severe back, hip, and neck pain, which I would later discover to be from scoliosis, and depression from leaving dance. My mother reminded me that I had loved Yoga. I was living in a town without a Yoga studio and came across a VCR tap, yes, a VCR tape. That was 15 years ago…my knees don’t hurt, my back is stronger, and my spirit is full. What’s more, after a devastating abdominal surgery in 2000 I found the answer for all my depression, fears, and sadness….Yoga and meditation! I give it all over to Yoga!
My personal experiences of self-empowerment and healing using Yoga and meditation led to me beginning training. I completed my 250 Hour Teacher Training from Yoga Rasa Teacher Training and registered with Yoga Alliance in 2008. In 2009, I earned her Relax and Renew Certificate from Judith Hanson Lasater, enabling me to introduce Restorative Yoga and Yoga therapy into classes and private lessons. Later in 2009, I registered as an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) at the 200 Hour level after completing over 1,000 hours teaching Yoga.
I have had the honor of working with Tracie Brace in the Hatha and Vinyasa styles, Valerie Inmore in the Anusara style, and Judith Hanson Lasater in Relax and Renew Yoga. I have attended workshops by Shiva Rea (Vinyasa), Doug Kellar (Hatha), and Deanna Anderson (Jivamukti).
My classes and private lessons are designed with the needs of the individual in mind and include quiet moments of reflection, time for playful poses, and laughter…a key ingredient in feeling great!!!!!!
Take time for yourself; be Present In The Moment!!!!
