A Loving Goodbye to my best friend!

I am devastated to report that my beloved Ruben, YamaYoga's mascot since we opened our doors in May 2005, tragically died in my hands Saturday night, Feb. 7 at about 8:30 pm.  The cause of death was determined to be lung hemmoraging caused by a faulty oven liner that contained PTFEs and PFOAs, the toxic substance in Teflon and almost all other non-stick products.  The liner had been used in the oven numerous times for over a year but that night during a 25 minute cooking cycle actually began to BURN letting off undetectable toxic fumes.  These fumes not only killed Ruben but also all of my cockatiels in less than 20 minutes.  Does this make you wonder what these products are doing to all of us and our planet?

Ruben had a profound impact on everyone she met along the way and will be deeply missed by all.  Her loss to me is beyond words!  I will mourn her forever but I know we will see each other again at the Rainbow Bridge.  Knowing her, she will just say "What's going on?"

Namaste, Rubes!

Ruben (Rubina)

Started her life about 10 years ago, but her actual place of hatching was unknown.  Her first year was spent entertaining customers at Pet World Warehouse on Milwaukee's South 27th Street. She was then adopted by Granddad Tom and Grandmother Sally as a gift for their handsome son Jeff, who was her very best friend.  She was SUPPOSED to be his only child...until he met his wife and they had a human baby boy.  Granddad found her new home with her Mom, his yoga teacher, Marietta. She shared a house in South Milwaukee with several cockatiels, four German Shorthaired Pointers and some fish.  She spent most days at YamaYoga making lots of new friends with the great students we have here.  She was even learning some really cool yoga postures, her favorite being Tree Pose.  This past summer she learned to ride into the studio with Mom on the motorcycle, flirting with all the men she saw in passing.

Welcome to our new little friend, Ganesha.  She is just one year old and a rescue who has already had a tough beginning to her life.  She doesn't spend as much time at Yama, but is learning to come in now and then to make friends with all the students and staff.  She is a sweet little girl, and LIKES WOMEN AS WELL AS MEN!
