Seated Twist

Developed by Joseph H. Pilates (1881-1967) the Legendary Physical Trainer.  When interned in Europe during WWI, Joseph became a nurse.  His experiments in resistance using springs attached to hospital beds strengthened immobilized patients.  His discoveries led him to design the Universal Reformer, as well as other apparatus used today.  A series of exercises evolved combining systematic movements, coordination, concentration, precision, breath, flow.  This system of movements was to become the foundation to the highly acclaimed and published workout programs.  The mat system refers to a mat, to lie, sit, kneel, or stand on to perform movements.
