Established in 2005, Yama Yoga has been providing a safe, welcoming environment for yogis to cultivate and expand their yoga practice for over ten years. Located in the heart of Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward, Yama offers a diverse schedule with something for everyone. Yama Yoga is honored to host some of the finest and most knowledgeable certified yoga teachers in the Milwaukee area, who share their practice and experience with our students seven days a week, in a variety of different styles and levels. Weekends are filled with exhilarating morning practices, and educational workshops taught by local and national yoga teachers that allow students to dive deeper into their personal practice. Private yoga classes are available to accommodate student's busy schedules and to focus on achieving their individual goals.
This class is intended to be a Q&A format. The students pick poses they want to work on, and we discuss ways of quickly sequencing to incorporate some of the ideas present inside posture, then attempt to combine the various ideas into difficult or complex poses. This workshop will be a playful way work on difficult postures and to break them down into quick digestible parts. By breaking the parts down, students can gain insight into body areas or actions where they may need some different understanding or refinement and have ways to isolate and work on them.
The process of moving into and out of yoga postures is a dynamic spectrum. There are a multitude of possibilities for sensation and awareness before, during and after the “finished” pose. The apex of a pose is simply a line on a graph, neither more nor less important than what comes before or after. Often the mind is fixed on an concept (in this case a finished pose) that is in the future, therefore, understanding and insight in the present become impossible. It is from this place that the ideas of “can’t / my body won’t move that way” come up, or conversely, an over inflated sense of self and achievement with the perception of “understanding” or having “mastered” the pose.
EMYoga is a synthesis of yoga and Energy Medicine. The power of this style of yoga is that it greatly increases the benefits of a regular yoga practice without increasing the time devoted to it. Incorporating simple techniques into an existing practice, or doing these simple techniques on their own, helps to balance the nine energy systems of the body. When in balance, these energy systems help to keep you strong, vital, healthy and focused. They work on your immune system, endocrine system and lymphatic systems especially. Additionally we work with focus on breath for releasing pain and stuck energy as well as learning techniques to change your habit fields, helping to foster the ability to implement new, positive habits for overall health and well being.
