7-9PM

The Summer Solstice marks the longest exposure of sunlight the onset of summer, and a shift where daylight hours gradually shortening back to balance between light and dark.  The Summer Solstice is a time to honor our connection with the sun, the nourishment it provides, and the fire element's nature to catalyze change.  According to the Chandogya Upanishad, the Hita nadi connects the heart of each individual to the sun, making this a time to celebrate by all that recognize this nourishing connection.  This summer solstice Yoga Nidra practice will focus on our connection to the sun, fire's ability to burn away impurities, and will leave us transformed, nourished, and energized for the most abundant time of year.

Yoga Nidra is a practice of yogic sleep, in which the practitioner reaches the deepest state of relaxation while maintaining a fully lucid consciousness.  Yoga Nidra develops a deeper relationship with your Self, cleanses the body and mind of tension, and related symptoms including headaches, neck tension, digestion disruptions, insomnia, and has been proven to benefit survivors of PTSD, and chronic pain.  Yoga Nidra decreases cortisol levels, depression, anxiety,  promotes physical and psychological wellbeing, vitality, general health, stress management (Srivastava, Neena, Khushbu Rani, Sc Tiwari, Uma Singh, Gg Agrawal, and Archana Ghildiyal. "Impact of Yoga Nidra on Psychological General Wellbeing in Patients with Menstrual Irregularities: A Randomized Controlled Trial." International Journal of Yoga 4.1 (2011): 20. Web.).

You will be first guided through surya bhedana, a pranayama practice that increase internal heat and digestive power, soothes and invigorates nerves, and cleanses sinuses, and then a Yoga Nidra practice that will journey between an awakened state and a deep sleep of the body.  Expect to feel totally relaxed and free from all external situations, circumstances, etc.

Autumnal Equinox Nidra

Autumnal Equinox Nidra

lead by Morgan Herum

Friday, September 23, 2016

7:30-9pm

The Autumnal Equinox is a time of balance between light and dark hours of the day.  Times of darkness are optimal for dreaming up intentions, and during light times, we work to manifest these intentions into reality.  As we are harvesting the fruit of our labor literally out of the garden and metaphorically out of life, it is a time of celebrating our accomplishments.  As the dark hours lengthen, plants transition to their dormant cycles, making the Autumnal Equinox the opportune moment to check in with your Self, reflect, and to let lie dormant that which doesn't serve you.  By practicing practicing Yoga Nidra, we stay in tune with the seasons, taking much needed rest after ripe and bustling summers.

Yoga nidra is a practice of yogic sleep, in which the practitioner reaches the deepest state of relaxation while maintaining a fully lucid consciousness.  Yoga nidra is a great practice to  develop a deeper relationship with your Self, while cleansing the body and mind of tension, anxiety, and any associated physical symptoms, including headaches, neck tension, and digestion disruptions.  Yoga nidra, when practiced regularly, has proven in various studies to be healing for those surviving insomnia, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and chronic pain.  Also, it has been stated that one hour of yoga nidra is equivalent to four hours of normal sleep!

You will be first guided through a pranayama and mantra practice to center and ground yourself in preparation for yoga nidra.  Following, you will lie in savasana for a yoga nidra practice that will journey between an awakened state and a deep sleep of the body.  Expect to feel totally relaxed and free from all external situations, circumstances, etc.  Bring any blankets, pillows, and warm clothing for the practice to ensure comfort as it is normal for body temperature to drop and to cushion the hardness of the floor.

Cost:    $20 preregistration               $25 at the door

Interoceptive Yoga Series

Kristin Sutter

Kristin Sutter

Throughout the course of our lives circumstances, events and experiences can shock our system and can cause us to lose our capacity to "feel" our own inner body and physical responses. Our day-to-day world can become at the least monochromatic and dull, or at worst, painful.

In this all-levels, four-week series we will practice interoception-using yoga as a tool to build awareness of internal physical sensations, which the mind may typically have a hard time accessing.  Students will be invited to move at their own pace, and there will be no physical assists.

Interoceptive Yoga for Women

August 14-September 4, 2016, 4:30-5:30pm

  • Four-week series; preregistration required
  • Students who self-identify as women are welcome
  • 60-minute class

EMYoga Weekend Workshop Energy Medicine Yoga with Lauren Walker

  • Yama Yoga

EMYoga is a synthesis of yoga and Energy Medicine. The power of this style of yoga is that it greatly increases the benefits of a regular yoga practice without increasing the time devoted to it. Incorporating simple techniques into an existing practice, or doing these simple techniques on their own, helps to balance the nine energy systems of the body. When in balance, these energy systems help to keep you strong, vital, healthy and focused. They work on your immune system, endocrine system and lymphatic systems especially. Additionally we work with focus on breath for releasing pain and stuck energy as well as learning techniques to change your habit fields, helping to foster the ability to implement new, positive habits for overall health and well being.
